Ride of Silence - May 16

DATE: May 16, 2007
TIME: 7:00 pm
WHERE: Meet at Gasworks Park at 6:15 p.m. 12 mile loop will go through downtown Seattle.
On May 16, 2007, at 7:00 PM, the Ride of Silence will begin in North America and roll across the globe. Cyclists will take to the roads in a silent procession to honor cyclists who have been killed or injured while cycling on public roadways. Although cyclists have a legal right to share the road with motorists, the motoring public often isn't aware of these rights, and sometimes not aware of the cyclists themselves.
The Ride Of Silence is a free ride that asks its cyclists to ride no faster than 12 mph and remain silent during the ride. There is no brochure, no sponsors, no registration fees and no t-shirt. The ride, which is held during Bike Safety month, aims to raise the awareness of motorists, police and city officials that cyclists have a legal right to the public roadways. The ride is also a chance to show respect for those who have been killed or injured.
Comment on the Seattle Bicycle Master Plan
The Full Draft Plan is available for comment:
NOTE: The deadline for comments has been extended until 5 pm, May 18th, 2007
The Bicycle Master Plan is a planning document that will be used to guide future improvements to Seattle's bicycle network. The focus for the master plan is on the evaluation of arterial streets for the implementation of bike lanes and to encourage more bicycling throughout the City of Seattle . Also included will be a plan and schedule for completing the trails network including the Burke-Gilman Trail.
The creation of the Bicycle Master Plan is a public process and we encourage you to tell us about the issues you might have with the current bicycling conditions and facilities throughout the city. You may comment in one of 2 ways:
- Tell us about your specific concerns by sending us an email. You can contact Virginia Coffman, City of Seattle Bicycle and Pedestrian Program at virginia.coffman@seattle.gov or by phone at 206-684-3902.
- Attend a public meeting. Refer back to this Bicycle Master Plan Website periodically for updates as work on the plan progresses or send us your email address to receive meeting announcements.
