Phospho Spoked Poli

Elias Savage has waded through the swamp that is eBay only to be saved months later by Craigslist...this bike has history. She started off as a DeBernardi with the Dura-Ace Grouppo you see here. Within the first block, the Bottom Bracket fell out of the non-drive side. Apparently, DeBernardi's also had that sleeved bb thread/cup era Bennotto is infamous for. Luckily the frame fairy had dropped this gem of a Poli in our laps a bit before and Voila! Still, the wheels were sh** out of the box. During the DeBernardi/Poli Transplant, I de-tensioned them and brought them back up to relative awesomeness. The Rear was trashed, however. Elias Trued his wheels daily between then and now (several months). We immediately began planning his new wheels. He decided, why not, GID Phospho Blue Spokes! White RR1.1s on his full Dura-Ace Grouppo he is collecting. His shifters also went. New in box present procured. While planning the build, my visit to Kansas popped up and all I remember is being drunk in Wal-Mart deciding with Jon (via iPhone) what length spokes to send to SIK Werks for Phospho Treatment (while kicking an inflatable ball through the aisles). A bit later the spokes were in, rims too. We sat down to build and WTF! the phospho paint was too thick for the tiny DA spoke holes. For a week we tried different things, we just had to trim some off and force the elbows through a little. Vintage road hubs are not the best app for Phospho. Track hubs like Phil Wood no problem at all. We now have samples. Whew! Shortly there after we tried again...sh** his hubs are mismatched 32h Rear, 36h Front. Jon and Elias and I are stumpted. We counted everything so many times. I mean impossible! Ok, Elias go find some more NIB love on the interwebs. Three months later, last Friday, we were sitting on the back patio of the Oddfellows when I asked, Elias did you fing that hub yet? No luck, $200+ on eBay. I sighed and picked up the iPhone. Craigslist provides. The second entry, Cul-De-Sac Garage Sale many items hubs (road) etc... I made the call, Caroline answered. I'm looking for a very specific part, 32h Dura-Ace Front hub from back in the day. Yes, I think I have two, one needs to be rebuilt... Will you count for me, it has to be 32 hole. 14, 15,16...yep, 32! Great how much? Well, I was thinking $20 but you look at it and let me know. Thanks! We will see you in a few hours. Turns out Caroline has a bike shop in the basement. She builds bikes for people, mostly women. You know, they go into bike shops and get treated poorly, she says. Caroline was fantastic! We picked up a few more bits from her and are going to go back for more! We rushed back to town in Rush Hour...nowhere fast. Got to mobius and started building. Around 11pm I started shooting, throughout different stages of the build. I finally finished at 6am..with that shot of Elias passed out on the floor (from invisible circling in the dark). We went to the Hurricane for Bfast. Elias was so stoked. He couldn't believe how fast his wheels were. Quality. Last night, I received a late phone call, Niki, It's Elias. Hey, do you have any idea how much cooler these wheels look out in the middle of nowhere on Vashon Island after ONE HOUR of Sunlight Charge!! Guess I don't. Gotta get some Pics of that!
